La Purisima High School conceived through the tenacity of Barrio. Captain Fausto Baluis and his Councilman, the barangay council has seen the need of the community to establish their own Barangay High School for reason that majority residents has no mean to send their children to seek high school education. In one meeting they pointed out several reasons that sparred the leadership of Capt. Faustino Baluis to prepare a resolution citing the need as; La Purisima is the biggest Barrio in Nabua with a population of no. less than 1,500 families, the 7 kilometer distance of the place to the town proper where the nearest High School is located, and generally to answer the economic growth through Education since the place is a farm land and fishing is the livelihood.
A preliminary presentation was conducted to Mayor Ulfiano D. Duran of Nabua. In the presentation were Capt. Fausto Baluis, the barrio secretary Agustin Razon, Municipal Council Eugenio Lanuza and Council Ramon Nagales Agustin. After consideration of the proposal the same was presented to Congressman Ciriaco Alfelor Sr. and also Governor Luis R. Villafuerte of Camarines Sur. After the presentation was made, they proceeded to the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) Manila and submitted the necessary document for approval. In 1969 the first enrollees for first and second year high school was organized but since the Barrio Councilmen were still working on the approval of DECS the students were housed in the two (2) unoccupied rooms of Agupit Elementary School with 4 pioneer Teachers. They are Miss Antonina Lazarte, Miss Socorro Baluis Florendo, Miss Emily Julianes and Miss Salvacion Lomenario. The school was considered as an extension School of Nabua National High School, thereby the supervision is done by the Nabua National High School Principal. The teachers depended their salary from the barrio fund and a small percent of the tuition fees. Recognizing this achievement, the parents responded by enrolling their children in the school. The succeeding years, brought about the hiring of new teachers to cope with the growing number of students and producing the first graduates in 1972. With the yearly increase of the enrolment, in 1971, the council moved to rent a lot beside the Elementary School Campus and constructed Bahay Kubo to accommodate the classes. The nine (9) teachers struggled to cope with the increasing number of students until the DECS approval of the proposal and recognized La Purisima High School in 1974. Having been recognized as a new school, through Governor Luis R. Villafuerte a fund was procured to purchase the rented lot and thereby securing the first official campus. The governor extended his aide of working out on the salary and benefits of teacher were 70% came from the National and 30% from the Local Government funds, thereby giving the security of the teachers. Simultaneous with this improvement, construction of a concrete classrooms begin. Government official, PTA and the school requested other facilities from different sources just to cope with growing number of students. The School finally becomes a fully dependent school in 1984 when DECS recognized it as La Purisima High School thereby additional facilities, classrooms, book and other needs were granted. In 1988, Mrs. Asuncion N. Arroyo was appointed as Teacher-In-Charge managing 16 teachers. In 1989, another building was constructed by Japan International Cooperative Association (JICA) to accommodate further the students. In it, additional laboratory materials and facilities were donated. The La Purisima National High School sustained its drive to improve the facilities to support the yearly increasing enrollees, aimed higher towards giving higher quality education and working on a common goal to serve the community. Consequently, in 1991, there are 18 teachers boasting at least 800 students, 1993 has organized two classes per year level. Appointment of Principal I came about in 1994 and change in administration occurred, Mr. Carlos T. Misola was designated as Principal. But year 2004 up to the present was significant because numerous achievements were achieved by the school under the leadership of Mrs. Asuncion N. Arroyo on her assumption as the Principal. For 43 years of existence of La Purisima High School came a long way from a 4 teacher to 32 teachers now, has achieved much in its primary goal that is giving quality education and service to the community. Ranked first in the Division Achievement Test in 2006, it has produced numerous graduates contributing to the economic growth of their family and has established its name in numerous competitions in Regional and National level. |
